Managing urban development projects

Urban development includes the formation, promotion and management of population growth, area expansion, building streets and houses, and improving urban environment and appearance over time. This process creates a physical space, a common home for urban socio-economic activities. In particular, the implementation of urban development projects according to policies, planning, implementation management, multi-sector investment ... is becoming the main mode.

Policy and strategy

Since the reform, the process of urbanization in our country has been happening rapidly. More than 800 urban centers of all kinds together with economic-industrial-urban zones, border gates and key infrastructures are becoming the foundation to promote great socio-economic development. However, many traditional and non-traditional challenges such as resource depletion, environmental degradation, increasing climate change, etc. are putting this process at unsustainable risk and even hindering socio-economic development.

After the world sustainable maintream was initiated in the 1990s, Viet Nam soon committed to develop towards this trend through strategic goals, national, sectoral and local action plans. However, development in parallel with environmental sustainability is posing a big challenge that cities need to overcome. For developing countries like Vietnam, the difficulties are even more.

Experience in sustainable urban development is all or any results related to energy saving, green growth, green consumption, smart city, of urbanized activities by sectors, institutions and people following initiatives from policy, planning, designs to execution of urban development projects. AMD experts participated in:

i) Collaborating with VIUP experts in research on proposal for mainstreaming green growth criteria in defining tasks for master planning of Tra Vinh City.

ii) Coordinating with the OECD, Habitat and GGGI experts in preparation of a report on reviewing and recommending urban policy groups in Viet Nam.

Sustainable urban design and planning bền vững

This service refers to way to arrange activities in the spatial developent of cities over time. Experience in this area is all or any result that build up an integrated, streamlined and effective system that deploy the strategic policies to general, detailed planning, development projects and implementing parties and monitoring evaluators, helping urban authorities develop spaces and infrastructure in response to socio-economies and environment sustainability. AMD experts have:

Coordinated with consultants ... to propose a development plan for the Biotechnology Park approved by Ha Noi City.

Cooperating with Nippon Koe VN experts in proposing technical solution for building universal infrastructure in the Scale-up Urban Ugrading Project (SUUP).

iii) Cooperating with experts VIUP on formulating design tasks and supervising the urban design works for the Nguyen Van Cu axis, contributing to tourism identity for Ha Long City.

Managing urban upgrading and development projects.

This service includes formulation, approval, executive operation, monitoring and evaluation, handover of projects on strategic policy, urban planning and design, development or upgrading investment, industrial and urban areas etc. from different sources. Experience in managing these projects is all or any thing that helps bringing projects to results in qualified and timing manner. AMD expert coordinated with WB in formation and carrying out:

i) The results-based urban development program in 7 Northern mountainous cities (Bắc Kạn, Cao Bằng, Điện Biên, Hòa Bình, Thái Nguyên, Tuyên Quang and Yên Bái); and

ii) The project to upgrade 6 cities in the Mekong Delta (Cà Mau, Cần Thơ, Cao Lãnh, Mỹ Tho, Rạch Giá and Trà Vinh).
